Dylan Molyneaux scored twice and senior
Ethan Aigeldinger had two assists in the Cougars third-straight MAC Freedom victory over FDU-Florham, 5-1, Saturday on Senior Appreciation Day.
The Cougars controlled the majority of play with a 23-5 shots advantage and a 12-1 shots on goal differential.
In the 18
th minute, Molyneaux tallied his first score on an assist from
Braiden Christie and Aigeldinger. Christie controlled the ball at the 30-yard mark and volleyed a pass to Aigeldinger inside the box, who played the ball to Molyneaux with a header. Molyneaux beat the keeper through his legs for his second goal of the season.
After taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime, the Cougars maintained their momentum with a quick goal to start the second half.
Aigeldinger connected with Molyneaux once more for his second goal of the game. The sophomore midfielder beat the keeper high following a cross from the left corner in the 46
th minute.
Later in the second half, FDU answered back with a goal from Salvatore Vassallo in the 66
th minute to pull within one score. However, the Cougars quickly regrouped with a goal from
Nick Ruggiero in the 69
th minute after
Connor McCarthy fed him the ball on a long pass. Ruggiero controlled the pass with his chest, then beat the keeper to the left side.
Moments later, the Cougars added on two more insurance goals to put the game out of reach.
Nick Szczerba tallied the first score off a long pass by McCarthy from beyond midfield in the 72
nd minute. The junior midfielder gathered the pass and chipped a shot over the keeper's head for his team-leading ninth point.
Seven minute later,
Jared Houser closed out the scoring after connecting on a cross from
Cody Rogers.
The Cougars improve to 4-2 in the MAC Freedom. The team will play at Susquehanna on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season at Manhattanville, Saturday.
