The Misericordia University men's basketball team opened the season with a 107-64 loss at Division I Binghamton, Monday.
Stone McCreary led the Cougars with nine points and six rebounds while
Brendan Leonard and
Justin Iton added eight points each.
Iton,
Foster Clark and
Noah Rivera all had five rebounds.
The Cougars trailed 17-16 six minutes into the game, but the Bearcats opened a 10-point lead over the next five minutes and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Jason Kenny opened the game with a three-pointer before Binghamton scored seven straight points to take 7-3 lead.
McCreary drained a three-pointer from the left corner to cut the margin to 7-6.
After a Binghamton three-pointer, Kenny drove the lane to get within 10-8 and
Brendan Leonard drilled a three-pointer to pull even, 11-11.
Down 17-13, McCreary hit a contested three-pointer in front of the Binghamton bench to get within a point.
Trailing 22-16, Leonard's putback got the Cougars within four, but that's as close as they got the rest of the evening.
MU will host Staten Island in their home opener, Wednesday.
