The Misericordia University women's basketball team never trailed as they cruised past Mount Aloysius, 92-44, Sunday in its final game at the Sisters of Mercy Classic.
Tessa Zamolyi led the way for the Cougars with a game-high 17 points while shooting 7-12 from the field. The sophomore forward has recorded double digit points in all six contests this season.
Jordan Barth had a career day with her first collegiate double-double. The center posted career-bests with 16 points and 13 rebounds, including a game-high seven offensive boards.
Barth shot 6-9 from the field while collecting three steals and three assists.
Rachel Carmody and
Japriya Carroll each contributed 12 points. Carroll grabbed five rebounds and shot 2-4 from deep while Carmody grabbed six boards and collected an assist.
After ending the first quarter with a 16-10 lead, the Cougars immediately built on their momentum with a quick bucket from Barth. The center came away with a steal on the opposite side of the court and went coast-to-coast for an easy layup.
Later in the second quarter, Zamolyi hustled the length of the court to follow up a Carroll layup. Zamolyi grabbed the offensive board, fought off contact and connected at the free throw line to complete the three-point play to give the Cougars a 36-18 lead.
Moments later, Barth fed the ball to Carmody in the post on two consecutive drives to expand the team's lead to 40-18. Misericordia outscored the Mounties 27-8 in the second quarter while shooting 55-percent from the floor.
The Cougars continued their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Mounties 49-26 the rest of the way.
Misericordia wrapped up the third quarter with a Carroll three-pointer off a pass from
Nora Tracey to expand its lead to 39 points.
The squad's biggest lead came with 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter when
Shea Matta connected on a layup from Barth to give the Cougars a 50 point cushion.
Carmody and Zamolyi were selected to the All-Tournament team while
Kalynn Sefcik earned the Sisters of Mercy award. Sefcik scored five points with four rebounds and three assists in the contest.
Misericordia improved to 6-0 and remain undefeated on the season. Misericordia will host Marywood University, Wednesday at 6:00.
