The Misericordia University men's basketball team's second-half rally came up just short in a 65-63 loss to Neumann, Monday evening at the Anderson Center.
The Cougars trailed by 16 points late in the first half, but shot 77.8% from three-point range in the second half.
MU charged back over the final 7:15 and had the game's final possession, but were unable to get a shot off.
Jason Kenny led the Cougars with 17 points and
Stone McCreary added 16.Â
Foster Clark had 12 points and
Noah Rivera had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Kenny added three assists and three steals and
Alec Rodway had four rebounds and four assists in his first game of the season.
The Cougars shot just 21.9% from the floor over the opening 20 minutes and the Knights us a 10- run over the final 4:49 to take a 33-17 halftime lead.
Down 45-33 with 13:06 remaining in the game,
Foster Clark's putback ignited a 13-2 run for the Cougars.
Kenny sliced down the lane for a layup and to get within 45-37 and the Cougars got the ball back on an offensive foul with 11:00 to go.
Harding threaded a pass to Clark for a three in front of the MU bench to pull within 45-40.
McCreary buried a three-pointer from the right wing off a drive-and-dish by Kenny and drilled another three from the top of the key to get the Cougars within 47-46 with 9:21 to go.
Neumann scored nine straight points over the next two minutes to regain a double-digit lead, 56-46, to set up MU's final rally.
Kenny sandwiched four free throws around a three-pointer by McCreary to get within 58-53.
Justin Iton slammed home an offensive rebound to cut the deficit to 58-55 with 3:42 to go.
Kenny's three-pointer and driving layup got the Cougars within 62-60 with less than a minute remaining and
Foster Clark made three free throws to cut the Knights' lead to 64-63 with :09 left.
Neumann added a free throw with :04 to go and swarmed the Cougars on the other end to prevent a shot attempt as time expired.
Misericordia, 4-2, will open its MAC Freedom schedule at Wilkes, Wednesday.
