DeSales used a 7-0 run early in the second half to take the lead on the way to a 59-48 win over Misericordia University in a key MAC Freedom women's basketball contest, Tuesday evening at the Anderson Center.
Japriya Carroll led the Cougars with 11 points and eight rebounds while
Rachel Carmody added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Cougars held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first five minutes, but led just 2-0 on
Japriya Carroll's baseline jumper.
After DeSales rallied to take a 12-6 lead with 1:10 in the first quarter, Carroll drained a three-pointer from the right corner.
The Bulldogs scored off an MU turnover before
Leanne Forsyth closed the quarter with a baseline drive to get MU within 14-11 after 10 minutes.
DeSales scored eight straight points to open the second quarter and take a 22-11 lead.
Misericordia responded with a 17-4 run to close the half with a 28-26 lead.
Carmody sank a pair of free throws in front of a driving layup by
Erica Haefele. Carroll found Carmody on a back-door cut to get within 24-17 midway through the second quarter.
Quintessa Zamolyi added a pair of free throws and a layup underneath on a nice pass from Carroll after a scramble for a loose ball.
Haefele drained a three-pointer from the left wing and Carroll made two free throws to tie the score, 26-26, with 1:44 left in the first half.
Carmody hit a turnaround jumper along the baseline to give MU a 28-26 lead heading to halftime.
Kalynn Sefcik hit a jumper inside the arc to give Misericordia its biggest lead of the night, 30-26, early in the second half, but DeSales answered with a 9-3 run to take the lead for good.
Misericordia, 15-9 (8-5), will host Manhattanville, Saturday with the winner clinching a MAC Freedom post-season berth.
