Quintessa Zamolyi fueled a big third quarter as the Misericordia University women's basketball team clinched a post-season berth with an impressive 79-61 win over Manhattanville, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.
Zamolyi scored 16 of her team-high 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the second half as the Cougars pulled away in the third quarter.
Paige Wampole added a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Kalynn Sefcik had 14 points and
Rachel Carmody and
Japriya Carroll both added 11 for the Cougars.
After missing most of the first half with two fouls, Zamolyi scored MU's first six points of the second half. She used a nice spin move down to finish a pass from Carmody and added a short jumper following an offensive rebound and then sank a short jumper in the lane for a 37-29 lead less than two minutes into the third period.
Carmody drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key off a drive-and-dish from Sefcik and then finished a fast-break from Jackie Hajec to Zamolyi for a 44-34 lead midway through the period.
After a Manhattanville three-pointer, Sefcik drained a three-pointer from the left wing and drove the left side for a bucket and a 50-39 lead with 2:39 to go in the third quarter.
The Cougars maintained a double-digit the rest of the way.
MU improved to 16-9 overall and clinched the fourth seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament. The Cougars will visit top-seeded FDU-Florham, Wednesday.
