The Misericordia University men's volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision at Alvernia, Friday.
The Cougars led 14-12 in the deciding set, but the Golden Wolves rallied for four straight points for the victory.
Ryan Miller led Misericordia with 21 kills and two aces while
Caleb Bauder added 11 kills and 14 digs.
Kaden Abreu had five kills and three blocks and
Bailey Brugler had 44 assists and nine digs.
The Cougars took the opener, 25-21, before Alvernia rallied for back-to-back 25-16, 25-18 wins. Misericordia answered with a 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
Back-to-back kills from
Matt Lavin and Miller gave the Cougars a 9-7 lead. Two more kills by Miller gave MU a 12-9 advantage.
The Cougars led 13-9 before Alvernia rattled off three straight points.
An attack error by the Golden Wolves had the Cougars facing match point, but Alvernia scored four straight points to pull out the win.
Michael Trygar had two kills to help close out the first set in a 25-21 win.
Alvernia ended the second set on a 4-0 run to pull even, 25-16, and used an 11-2 spurt to take a 13-7 lead in the third set. The Golden Wolves closed the set on a 6-3 run to win 25-18.
MU used two Alvernia miscues to break a 19-19 draw and Abreu and Miller combined for the last three points in a 25-22 win.
