Box Score 2 The Misericordia men's volleyball traveled to Neumann University for a tri-match, Saturday afternoon, where they swept the host Knights after falling to eighth-ranked Kean in three sets.
Against Neumann, Ryan Miller hit an astounding .769 with 11 kills on 13 swings. Matt Lavin chipped in six kills and two aces and Bailey Brugler had 24 assists.
The Cougars used a 9-0 run, which included three aces by Brugler, to take a commanding 13-2 lead in the first set. Five more aces, including another one by Brugler on set point, helped the Cougars secure the first set, 25-11.
A kill by Miller and an ace by Bauder gave the Cougars an early 2-0 lead in the first set. The Knights stuck around for a little bit, before a 6-2 run culminating in a kill by Michael Trygar gave the Cougars an 18-11 lead. Neumann cut their deficit to four, but the Cougars closed out the set, 25-18, on a kill by Miller.
In the third set, MU jumped out to a 7-2 lead, getting kills from Brugler, Miller and Kaden Abreu and an ace by Lavin. John Natiello had back-to-back kills to conclude a 4-0 run to give the Cougars a 15-6 lead a couple of points later. The Knights got back to within five, but Misericordia took the match, winning the third set, 25-19, on a service error.
Earlier in the day, the Cougars faced their toughest opponent of the season, taking on #8 Kean University. Misericordia fell in three sets, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-15.
Miller had six kills and Trygar contributed four of his own. Brugler accumulated 16 assists and Abreu had two blocks.
Three aces helped Kean take an early 4-0 lead and they never looked back from there. The Cougars were unable to put a run together until three straight points cut the score to 24-13, but Kean took the set on the next point.
The second set was close early before Kean took a 15-10 lead. However, the Cougars came back with five straight points, getting kills by Abreu and Miller and an ace by Brugler, to tie the set. Kean responded by going on a 6-0 run and eventually took the set, 25-19.
After jumping out to a 11-5 lead, Kean never let Misericorida get any closer, cruising to a third set victory and taking the match.
The Cougars are back in action, Tuesday at 7:00 when they host Widener in Middle Atlantic Conference action.
