Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars Grind Their Way to Victory over Delaware Valley

In a hard-fought battle until the final seconds, the Misericordia men's basketball team came away with 65-57 victory over the Aggies of Delaware Valley, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.

Jason Kenny had a game-high 17 points and Noah Rivera had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tyerell Mann reached double figures with 12 points for the first time since he scored 12 points January 13, also against Delaware Valley.

The Aggies held a slight 47-46 advantage on the glass and both teams were 17-25 from the line in an evenly-matched contest.

After a sluggish start by both teams, Bryce Mondorff hit a three from the left wing to make it 7-6 Delaware Valley with 14:02 remaining in the first half.

Misericordia trailed for most of the first half, but with 4:47 to go, in the midst of an 8-0 run for the Cougars, Noah Rivera lobbed the ball into Tony Harding down low for a layup to give MU a 25-24 lead. Rivera picked up another assist a couple of plays later when he found Harding down low again for an easy layup to put Misericordia up 29-25.

In the second half, Delaware Valley came back to take a 38-37 lead, but Mann was able to convert a layup on the fast break off of a block by Rivera on the other end.

With the score tied at 41, Stone McCreary hit a spot-up three from the left wing, but five straight points by the Aggies gave them the lead right back. However, Fields hit a three to put the Cougars back in front for the time-being.

At 51-all with 6:43 remaining, Kenny gave Misericordia the lead for good when he split two defenders in the lane and finished with a high-scooping layup. Delaware Valley was able to keep it close for the next couple of minutes, but Kenny iced the game from the line, making six straight free throws to close out the victory.

Misericordia is back in action against King's, Wednesday at 8:00 in the first of two straight games in Wilkes-Barre.
