The Misericordia University women's basketball team used a big third quarter to pull away from Delaware Valley in a 78-64 win, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

Trailing 34-30 at halftime, the Cougars out scored the Aggies 26-9 in the third quarter.

Paige Wampole had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead MU while Rachel Carmody added 17 points.  Quintessa Zamolyi had 15 points and Japriya Carroll added 12.

Carmody scored five straight points and then found Wampole underneath to pull the Cougars even, 39-39, with 6:20 left in the third quarter.

Carmody drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to put Misericordia in front for good, 44-43, with 4:33 to go in the third period.

The Cougars scored the next 12 points to finish the period on a 15-0 run.

Zamolyi drained a three-pointer from the top of the key off a nice pass from Liz Waleski and Carmody finished a fast break off long pass from Waleski to make it 49-43.

Carmody put back her own miss and Waleski got a shooter's roll of a deep three-pointer from the top of the key for a 54-43 lead with less than a minute remaining in the period.

Carroll added two free throws to end the run with MU up 56-43.

The Aggies got within seven points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Wampole and Carmody answered with back-to-back layups to get the lead back to double digits, 60-49.

Zamolyi hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to give MU its biggest lead of the day, 70-52, with 5:38 to play.

Misericordia improved to 13-7 overall and 6-3 in the MAC Freedom and will visit Manhattanville, Monday.
