Cole Bixler had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 9-1 win at Wesley, Tuesday.

Ian McCole allowed just one unearned run over seven innings and James Magaldi and Zach Mason both worked a shutout inning in relief.  McCole scattered five hits while striking out four.

Parker Abate added three hits and Kenny Jarema had two hits and an RBI.

Santo Guinta added a solo homer as the Cougars improved to 8-3.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Guinta drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Bixler's single to left field.

MU added two more runs in the top of the second.  Abate and Boylan reached on back-to-back bunt singles to start the third and moved up on a fielder's choice.  Jarema singled in a run with Boylan also scoring to make it 3-0.

Misericordia made it 4-0 with a run in the third.  Guinta reached by hit by pitch to lead off the fourth and went to third on Bixler's single to left.  Bixler eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Abate.

Guinta gave the Cougars a 5-1 lead with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

MU added four insurance runs in the top of the eighth.  Abate led off with an infield single and was erased when Sean Boylan reached on a fielder's choice.  Bell and Jarema both singled through the left side to load the bases.

Conor Smith singled up the middle to make it 6-1.  One out later, Bixler drove in two runs with a single to left and Jarema came all the around to score to make it 9-1.

Misericordia is scheduled to open MAC Freedom play with a doubleheader at Delaware Valley, Sunday.
