Elliot Forde threw eight shutout innings to lead the Misericordia baseball team to a 5-0 victory over Penn State-Behrend, Friday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Forde gets his second win of the season as the Cougars improve to 6-3.
The senior struck out four Nittany Lions and allowed just four hits, lowering his ERA to 1.96.
Steve Weisensee went 3-5 and Conor Smith went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Cole Bixler and Chad Bell also added two hits for MU.
The game was scoreless going into the seventh inning when Misericordia was able to take the lead, scoring four runs. Bell led off the inning with a double to get the rally started. Kenny Jarema walked and came around to score on an RBI single by Shane Hughes. Santo Guinta followed with an RBI groundout and Bixler singled to score Hughes. Guinta wrapped up the inning by scoring on an error by the Behrend shortstop.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the eighth with Smith hitting an RBI single.
Branden Falco went to the mound in the ninth to finish the game for Misericordia and retired all three batters he faced, striking out one.
The Cougars will wrap up their Florida trip tomorrow when they face Drew at 10:00.
