Cougars, Kellish Set School Records, MU Advances to MAC Freedom Final

The defending MAC Freedom champion Misericordia University men's lacrosse team advanced to the conference final for the fourth straight year with a 15-5 win over King's, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Sean McSwiggan had two goals and three assists and Patrick Kellish had two goals and two assists to set a new school single-season scoring mark with 67 points.

Brandon Winslow scored three goals and Paul Hanrahan and Nick Torzilli scored two goals apiece.

Brett O'Neill led King's with two goals and an assist and Shawn Dickey scored twice.

Matt Beck made six saves in goal over the first three periods and Antonio Whyte had five saves in the fourth quarter for MU.

Matt Basile made 13 saves in goal for the Monarchs and Codey Prindle had one stop.

The Cougars raced out to a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter and never looked back as they held a 50-24 advantage in shots.

Fleming scooped up a loose ball behind the King's net and found Winslow on the left wing to open the scoring 4:22 into the first quarter.

Robert Wagner fired a shot inside the right post less than a minute later for a 2-0 lead.

John Tierney caused a turnover that turned into a fast break goal from James Wood to McSwiggan with 3:15 left in the first quarter.

Tierney whipped a shot inside the right post for a 4-0 lead with 1:49 to go.

Hanrahan bounced a shot in from in front of the crease with 24 seconds left and Ryan Romaine scored his first goal of the season off the ensuing face-off for a 6-0 lead after one period.

Hanrahan drove down the center of the field and placed a shot inside the right post for a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter.

After Beck made back-to-back saves to keep the Monarchs off the scoreboard, Winslow bounced a shot in to give MU an 8-0 lead with 5:55 remaining in the first half.

Kellish scored near the left post less than a minute later to make it 9-0.

Torzilli made it 10-0 before King's got two goals in the closing minutes of the half.

Winslow and Torzilli scored early in the third quarter as the Cougars stretched the lead to 12-2.

Kellish assisted on back-to-back man-up goals midway through the period to break the school single-season scoring mark.

Fleming led MU with seven ground balls and Hanrahan and Kellish had four each and Tierney had three caused turnovers.

Misericordia will play Eastern, Saturday at 6:00 at Ridley High School.
