Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

MU Women's Lax Defeats King's to Advance to MAC Freedom Title Game

The Misericordia women's lacrosse team is heading to its fourth straight MAC Freedom title game after defeating King's College, 21-5, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field. As was the case the last three seasons, the Cougars will travel to Madison, N.J. to take on FDU-Florham, Saturday.

Ashley Hobbs led all players with five goals followed by Kaila Quinlivan with four. Amy Roth tallied three goals and two assists for a five-point night and Shae O'Leary came off the bench and picked up two assists as well.

The Cougars dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Monarchs 34-15, including a 26-9 advantage in shots on goal. Misericordia's best strategy was to not let King's get the ball as they won 21 draw controls, led by Brianna Ladner with eight, Quinlivan with seven and Lauren Weitzel with four, to just six total won by the Monarchs.

Kate Raab opened the scoring with a goal 2:42 into the game and two more goals by Roth and Emily Connell put the Cougars up, 3-0, less than five minutes into the game.

King's sandwiched two goals around Raab's second goal of the game to cut the lead to two, but Weitzel started a 3-0 run for MU by intercepting a pass near midfield and racing toward the goal and firing a shot into the back of the net.

After trading two goals apiece, the Cougars ended the half on a 4-0 run, getting two goals from Quinlivan and one each from Sarah Bender and Hobbs, to take a 13-4 lead into halftime.

After the break, Misericordia picked up right where they left off, scoring seven straight goals to cap off an 11-0 run. Hobbs scored four times in the stretch as Raab, Roth and Connell each found the back of the net as well.

The Cougars were unable to complete a second-half shutout as Amanda Carroll scored her third goal of the game for the Monarchs with just 3:45 to go in the contest, but Bender added a goal with 10 seconds left to put the margin of victory back to 16.

The Cougars will play for the title, Saturday at FDU-Florham at a time to be determined.
