The Misericordia University field hockey team fell to King's College, 1-0, Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The Cougars were able to generate several quality scoring chances off penalty corners, but couldn't put one in the back of the cage. They held an 11-7 advantage in corners while outshooting the Monarchs 8-4.
Early in the first half, the Cougars had a two minute stretch where they attempted four penalty corners. Misericordia's first scoring chance was in the 14
th minute when
Brynn Lansenderfer generated a shot on goal. Moments later,
Tori Carsley had a shot blocked and another shot saved to end the Cougars' threat.
In the 49
th minute, Misericordia produced consecutive shots following another corner. After a rip from the top of the circle,
Kailey Vogl controlled the rebound in traffic and fired a shot at the goalkeeper's pads.
Anna Effinger gathered the ensuing rebound, but had her shot blocked by a Monarch defender.
Later in the second half, the Cougars put together two of their best scoring chances of the day. Following a Monarch turnover,
Haley Gruber positioned herself behind the goalkeeper, but couldn't connect on a one-timer from the left side.
Minutes later, Carsley ripped a shot past the goalkeeper's left pad, but missed just wide in the 61
st minute. The sophomore forward led the Cougars with four shots.
The Monarch's deciding goal came in the 25

Katelyn Campbell came out of the cage to deflect a rip from Rachel Zultevicz, but Kelsey Gabriele was able to put back the ensuing rebound from the vacated right side.
The Cougars fall to 1-1 in the MAC Freedom while the Monarchs improve to 2-0. Misericordia will play at Susquehanna, Wednesday. Â
