Box Score The #16 Misericordia women's soccer team defeated DeSales University, 5-1, in its MAC Freedom Opener, Saturday on the road.
The Cougars offense struck early and often with five unanswered goals.
Maddy Carlo scored the first goal in the 15
th minute while
Jeanna Orfanos netted two consecutive scores in the 17
th and 20
th minutes, respectively.
Michaela Fasolino and
Saffron Hughes added on a couple insurance goals in the second.
Carlo set the tone for the Cougars with her first collegiate goal. The first-year midfielder chipped-in a centering pass from
Hannah Larkin to beat the DeSales goalkeeper.
Moments later, Orfanos tallied her team-leading second and third goals of the season. The junior's first score was generated off an intercepted pass from the Bulldogs' keeper while the latter was a tip-in following an
Evelyn Logie cross.
In the second half, Fasolino tallied her first career goal with an assist from
Hannah Larkin during the 63
rd minute. Twenty-minutes later, Hughes scored her second career goal and first of the season off a cross from
Madison Majcher. Both of Hughes' career goals have come against the Bulldogs.
Misericordia keeper
Alexis Benedetto faced six shots and nearly held DeSales scoreless. The Bulldogs lone tally occurred in the 89
th minute when Sydney Amato netted her third goal of the season.
The Cougars improve to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Freedom. Misericordia plays at Brockport, Tuesday.
