The Misericordia University men's basketball team avenged an early season loss and Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament with a 78-67 win over Penn State Abington, Saturday afternoon at Lycoming.
Tony Harding led the Cougars with 23 points and seven assists and
Jason Kenny added 15 points, three assists and three blocked shots.
Stone McCreary and
Noah Rivera both had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Harding was named tournament MVP and Kenny made the all-tournament team.
The teams traded the lead 10 times throughout the first half before MU took control with seven unanswered points over the final 2:12 to take a 41-33 lead.
Noah Rivera converted a three-point and added a layup to start the run and
Jason Kenny made two free throws to close the half.
PSU-Abington cut the margin to three points early in the second half, but layups from
Justin Iton, Kenny and McCreary quickly put MU ahead 51-42 with 15:19 to play.
Harding and McCreary both nailed three-pointers and Harding came up with a steal and found Kenny for a fast break layup and a 59-44 lead with 13:23 to go.
The Cougars maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way.
The MU bench outscored the Abington bench 15-3 as the Cougars avenged an 85-77 loss in the second game of the season.
Misericordia, 7-6, will return to MAC Freedom play, Wednesday at 6:00.
