The Misericordia University women's volleyball team swept King's, 3-0, in a key MAC Freedom match, Tuesday night at the Anderson Center.

The Cougars won 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 to improve to 18-12 overall and 3-3 in the MAC Freedom.  King's fell to 20-4 and 3-3.

Fiona Pyfer led the Cougars with 14 kills and Tara Welliver added 11 kills and three aces.  Faith Merritt had eight kills, three aces and three blocks.

Karley May had 38 assists to go over 1,000 for the season and Mikayla Gunkle had a team-high 12 digs.

Alexis Hendrickson had three aces and Jessica Oltman had three blocks.

The Cougars hit .471 as a team as they cruised to a 25-14 win in the opener.

MU raced out to a 5-0 behind two kills by Amanda Curcio and a block from Merritt and Welliver.

Leading 13-7, the Cougars capped a 5-0 run with an ace by Hendrickson to take an 18-7 lead.

Alexa Monro's ace made it 20-8 and Welliver had kills for three of the final four points before Oltman closed it out.

Welliver had three aces to key a 6-0 spurt as the Cougars took an 11-4 lead in the second set.

Misericordia stretched the lead to 22-12 before King's rallied to get within 24-21 before ending the set on a service error.

The Cougars fell behind for the first time in the third set, 4-3.

Four different players had kills during a 5-0 run as the Cougars went back in front, 10-7.

King's eventually pulled even, 17-17, but the Cougars responded with six straight points, including three aces by Merritt, to go up, 23-17.

The Monarchs cut their deficit to 24-21 before Pyfer closed out the match with a kill.

Misericordia will host Neumann, Thursday at 7:00.
