The Misericordia University football team scored the game-winning touchdown on its final possession for the second straight week as the Cougars beat King's, 22-16, before a large Homecoming crowd, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sam Gillison caught his second TD of the day to put the Cougars ahead for good with less than a minute to play.
Michael Gawlik added a touchdown on the second-half kick-off as the Cougars improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.
Mike Becke had 14 tackles and Zach Orzell and Mason Geary both added 10 stops as the MU defense allowed just one touchdown
Down 10-0 late in the second quarter, the Cougars forced a punt from the Monarchs' end zone and took over at the Monarchs' 37-yard line.
Brady Williams rolled to his right and hit Isaiah Williams on the right sideline for a 21-yard gain to the King's 16.
On second and six, Williams connected with Gillison on a quick slant for a 12-yard score. Matt Dinnocenti's PAT got the Cougars with 10-7 with 4:40 to go in the first half.
Gawlik took the second-half kick-off at his own 11-yard line, burst through the defense and raced untouched down the right side to put the Cougars ahead 14-10.
King's answered with two field goals to back in front, 16-14, with 12:23 to play.
The Monarchs threatened to put the game away as they marched inside the MU 10-yard line.
Becke and Geary combined for a tackle for loss and a fumbled snap gave the Monarchs a third-and-14 at the MU 19.
After a 12-yard reception, Geary and Mike Conway teamed for a stop behind the line of scrimmage on fourth down to set up MU's game-winning drive with 4:45 to play.
Brady Williams connected with Isaiah Williams on the right sideline for 12 yards and a first down at the MU 24-yard line.
Gawlik picked up 19 yards on two carries and Willie Wallace had a five-yard reception for a first down near midfield.
Williams found a streaking Gillison for a 51-yard touchdown, but a penalty brought the ball back to the King's 22-yard line.
A Williams' draw gained 10 yards and set up first goal at the 10.
After a short completion to Aaron Barry, Williams rolled right and found Gillison in the back of the end zone with :44 to play.
Williams' jump pass to Barry on the two-point conversion gave the Cougars a 22-16 lead.
The Monarchs advanced to the MU 40 on the last play of the game as the clock expired.
Misericordia will visit Widener, Saturday.
