The Misericordia University men's volleyball team swept the Cougar Kickoff Classic with two wins against Mount Union, 3-1, and Randolph-Macon, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center. The Cougars have won six straight matches after dropping their first two contests of the season.
Ryan Miller was named Tournament MVP with 46 kills, six aces and seven blocks while collecting a .321 hitting percentage. The reigning MAC Co-Rookie of the year is fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.0) and eighth in hitting percentage (.281).
Brian Ross was named to the All-Tournament team with a stellar weekend for the Cougars. The junior recorded double-digit kills in all four contests while totaling 44 kills, four blocks and two service aces with a .321 hitting percentage.
Caleb Bauder also had a big weekend with 35 kills, 20 digs and five aces.
Jordan Spidle contributed with 133 assists to expand his season-total to 244. The first-year setter currently ranks third in the MAC in assists per set (8.71).
The Cougars opened the final day of the tournament with a four-set victory over Mount Union (25-18, 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22), dropping only the second stanza to the Raiders.
Miller recorded a game-high 14 kills with a .321 hitting percentage.
Matt Lavin also played one of his best games of the year with a season-best 13 kills, two aces and two blocks against the Raiders. The middle blocker posted an efficient .579 hitting percentage with just two errors in 19 total attacks.

Jason Campbell each had two service aces to help set the tone for Misericordia.
Conner Westerfield led the squad with nine digs while Spidle added 37 assists.
The Cougars took care of Randolph-Macon with a three-set sweep (26-24, 25-19 and 25-18) in the tournament's finale. This was the team's second meeting of the season as Misericordia started its six-game winning streak with a win against the Yellow Jackets last weekend.
Miller led the Cougars in kills (12) for the third straight match while Bauder and Ross each collected 10 each. Miller had a personal weekend-best .357 hitting percentage while Ross finished with a .292 percentage.
Bauder led the way with three service aces while Spidle and Ross each collected two. The Cougars had nine combined aces while the Yellow Jackets only tallied one.
Spidle collected a game-high 35 assists while Westerfield tied his season-best mark with 11 digs. Bauder was second on the squad with nine digs while Miller collected six.
Mark Bruns (Mount Union), Scotty Carter (Randolph-Macon), Lee Olenyik (Randolph-Macon), Nick Baxter (Elizabethtown) and Mike Basile (Sage) rounded out the Cougar Kick-off Classic All-Tournament team.
Misericordia improved to 6-2 overall and will be back in action at Hunter College, Wednesday.
