MU Men Drop Pair to Nationally-Ranked Opponents

The Misericordia University men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to nationally-ranked opponents, Saturday.

The Cougars lost 3-0 to #6 Stevenson and host #13 Arcadia.

In the opener, Brian Ross, Matt Lavin and Caleb Bauder had four kills each and Dylan Sellitti had 15 assists.

Against Arcadia, Ross had eight kills and Ryan Miller had seven and Bauder added six.

Lavin had two aces and two blocks and Sellitti had 13 assists.

Stevenson took the opener, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.

The Mustangs used a 9-0 to take a 15-3 lead in the opener and used a 10-1 spurt to take a 10-3 lead in the second set.

Kills by Bauder and Lavin and a Stevenson error gave MU a 10-8 lead in the finale.

Stevenson broke a 12-12 tie with five straight points to pull away.

In the nightcap, Arcadia won 25-20, 25-22, 25-12.

Billy Murphy had two kills as part of a 5-0 run to give MU a 15-11 lead in the first set.

After the Knights pulled even, 18-18, Ross put the Cougars back in front with a kill.  But, Arcadia scored seven of the last eight points to win the set.

Down 16-9 in the second set, the Cougars got an ace from Lavin and took advantage of four Arcadia errors to get within 17-16.

Bauder and Jordan Spidle assisted on kills by each other to pull MU to within 23-22, but the Knights scored two straight to clinch the win.

Arcadia used an 11-1 run to take control of the third set.

Misericordia is 14-12 overall and 4-5 in the MAC.  The Cougars will visit Wilkes, Wednesday.
