The Misericordia University baseball team dropped the series finale to Wilkes, 11-3, Sunday afternoon at Volpe Field at the University of Scranton.
Tyler Holzapfel and
Billy Kerwien had RBI-hits for the Cougars and
Steve Weisensee also drove in a run.
Wilkes scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed.
The Cougars got a run back in the top of the second. Holzapfel and
Santo Guinta were both hit by pitch to open the inning and Holzapfel came around on Kerwien's single down the right field line.
Conor Smith lined into a double play to end the threat.
MU got within 5-3 with a pair of runs in the third.Â
Sean Boylan drew a lead-off walk and went to third on
Kenny Jarema's double to right center.
Weisensee drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left and Holzapfel followed with an RBI-single to left.
Wilkes added three runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more insurance runs in the seventh.
The Cougars are 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Freedom and will host FDU-Florham, Friday at 3:30 at Tambur Field.
