The Misericordia University softball opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a sweep at Wilkes, 2-0, 5-3, Sunday afternoon.
Kiersten Pflueger had two hits in the opener, including a solo homer, and
Ciara DeLong and
Maddie Holub both had two hits.
Miranda Bohn drove in a run.
Brooke Moyle struck out two and scattered six hits to earn the shutout win.
Pflueger added two more hits and an RBI in the nightcap and Holub, Bohn and
Caitlin Kennedy all had two hits.
Bohn struck out six and didn't allow any earned runs to pick up the complete game win.
In the opener, MU used some two-out magic to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Holub singled up the middle and took second on Pflueger's single through the left side. Bohn singled up the middle to get the Cougars on the board.
The Cougars added an insurance run when led off the third inning with a solo homer to center field.
MU struck in their first at bat in the nightcap as well.
Amanda Butera drew a one-out walk, stole second and went to third on a ground out. Pflueger followed with a single through the left side to make it 1-0.
After Wilkes tied in the third, the Cougars went in front for good with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Holub led off with a single and came around to score on Pflueger's single and an outfield error. Two outs later, Kennedy drove in a run with a single to right and
Megan Murphy followed with an RBI-double to left to make it 4-1.
The Cougars tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.Â
Ciara DeLong led off with a walk and pinch-runner
Lindsey Shimko went to third on Butera's double to right center.
Holub's sacrifice fly plated Shimko to make it 5-1.
Wilkes got two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Misericordia, 9-3, will visit Scranton, Monday.
