The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at the University of Scranton, Monday.  The Cougars won the opener, 9-5, and lost the nightcap, 8-6.

Miranda Bohn tossed six shutout innings of relief to earn the win in the opener as the Cougars overcame an early 5-1 deficit.

Maddie Holub paced the offense with three hits and five RBI and Ciara DeLong drove in two runs.

Jess McDonough had three hits and Kristen Pflueger added two hits.

Amanda Butera had three hits and two RBI in the second game.

In the opener, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Butera doubled to right center and scored on Holub's single up the middle.

Scranton answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Cougars got one back in the third.

McDonough led off with a double down the left field line and scored on Holub's single to right field.

The Cougars went ahead with four runs in the top of the fourth.

Danielle Heulitt drew a pinch-hit, one-out walk and advanced to second on the McDonough's infield single.  Butera drew a two-out walk to load the bases and Holub tied the game with a bases-clearing double.

Pflueger followed with a double to right center to put MU in front, 6-5.

Bohn singled up the middle with one out in the seventh and took second on a wild pitch.  Megan Murphy and Heulitt drew two-out walks to load the bases and McDonough drove in an insurance run
with a single up the middle.

DeLong followed with a single to center field to account for MU's final two runs.

In the nightcap, Butera singled with one out and came around to score on Holub's double and an error.  Bohn singled to right field to make it 2-0.

Scranton answered with three runs in their half of the first and added five more in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.

DeLong reached on an infield single with two outs in the fifth and scored on Butera's triple to right center.


The Cougars added three more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-6.
MU, 10-4, will visit Muhlenberg, Tuesday.
