Cougars Sweep Home Tri-Match, Claims Season Series over Alvernia

The Misericordia University men's volleyball team defeated Alvernia, 3-1, and John Jay, 3-0, in its home tri-match, Saturday in the Anderson Center.

The Cougars improved to 6-5 in the Middle Atlantic Conference with its second win of the season over Alvernia.

Ryan Miller and Caleb Bauder helped lead the way with a total of 20 kills. Billy Murphy and Brian Ross also contributed with 12 kills.

Jordan Spidle and Dylan Sellitti shared setter duties for the day. Spidle, who played the bulk of the first match, ended with 52 combined assists in both contests while Sellitti had 18 assists.

Matt Lavin led the Cougars with five total blocks while Miller had a team-high 20 digs.  

Misericordia overcame Alvernia in a tightly-contested four-set match. The Cougars edged out the first two sets, 28-26 and 26-24, and bounced back to claim the fourth set, 30-28.

Miller led the match with 15 kills and 20 digs. The sophomore posted a .233 hitting percentage while adding a service ace and a solo block to his stat line.

Spidle tied a season-high with 44 assists, matching his previous mark against Randolph-Macon. Matt Lavin recorded a game-high four blocks while Brian Ross tallied two service aces to go along with his nine kills.

The Cougars won comfortably in three sets against John Jay in today's finale.

Bauder had a team-high nine kills with a .375 hitting percentage while Jason Campbell and Miller each contributed five kills.

Sellitti totaled a game-high 17 assists while adding three digs and a service ace. Miller and Paul Schields also recorded an ace while Conner Westerfield led the team with five digs.

The Cougars improved to 17-12 overall and currently sit in fourth place in the Middle Atlantic Conference standings. Misericordia will host Eastern, Wednesday at 7 PM.
