The Misericordia University softball team swept Eastern University, 2-0 and 10-0, as head coach
Lindsay Freitag captured her 100
th career victory, Saturday at Anderson Field.
Brooke Moyle earned the win in the opener with another stellar outing. The junior completed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts.
Moyle also had a strong day at the plate with two doubles and two RBI in game two.
Miranda Bohn tossed a shutout in the second game. The first-year standout allowed just two hits and struck out three batters through five innings of work.
In the opener,
Amanda Butera helped edge out the Eagles with an RBI triple in the fifth inning to put the Cougars on the board, 1-0.
Ciara DeLong started the rally with a two-out single up the middle and Butera followed with a line drive to center field.
Taylor Baloga added an insurance run with an RBI ground out in the sixth inning.
Kiersten Pflueger opened the inning with a walk, advancing to second on a passed ball and moving to third on a Bohn fly out.
In game two, the offense batted around in the first inning with seven runs. DeLong reached on an error to open the game and later scored on a
Maddie Holub triple to center field.
Pfluegar singled to left field in the following at bat to drive Holub home. Moyle then doubled to right-center field to drive home two runs, 4-0.
After
Jessie McDonough reached base with a walk,
Brianna Holder cleared the bases with her second home run of the season to put the Cougars up 7-0 after one inning.
The Cougars added on another run in the third inning to expand their lead to 8-0. Moyle advanced
Megan Murphy into scoring position with a double and McDonough brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Misericordia capped off their scoring with two runs in the fourth inning. DeLong doubled to open the inning and scored moments later on a Butera single to right field. The team added another run on a Pflueger ground ball to go ahead 10-0.
The Cougars improve to 15-7 overall with a 4-0 MAC Freedom mark. Misericordia will host FDU-Florham, Sunday at 1:00.
