Softball Sweeps King’s, Baloga and Holder Tally Three RBI

The Misericordia University softball team won both games of its doubleheader versus King's College, 5-4 and 7-0, Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field.

The Cougars took the opener in walk-off fashion during the eighth inning. Maddie Holub provided the late-inning magic with an RBI single, which scored Amanda Butera, who led off the inning with a triple.

Taylor Baloga helped lead the way for the Cougars with a pinch hit three-run homer in the sixth inning. The junior's second home run of the season plated Holub and Kiersten Pflueger, who both reached on two out singles, to give the Cougars a 4-1 advantage.

First-year catcher Danielle Heulitt launched her first career home run in the fifth inning for the game's first run. Heulitt became the tenth Cougar to homer this season.

Brooke Moyle earned the victory to improve to 8-6 overall. The junior struck out four batters and surrendered four runs in eight innings of work.

The Cougars shutout out the Monarchs in game two of the doubleheader. Miranda Bohn earned her 12th victory of the season, tossing seven shutout innings with four strikeouts. The first-year standout is currently tied for second in the MAC Freedom in wins.

Brianna Holder went 2-for-3 with a team-best three RBI in game two. Holub, Pflueger and Antonia Pacillo each drove home one run while Holub also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

Holub sparked the Cougar's first inning rally with a two-out triple to left field. The sophomore hustled out of the box and beat out a close play at third base. She was then rewarded for her aggressive base running with a wild pitch that allowed her to take home plate.

Misericordia added on two more runs in the second inning. Heulitt started the rally with a leadoff walk and Jessie McDonough followed with a single to left field. Holder then cleared the bases with an RBI double to left-center field to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Holder added another run in the third inning with an RBI single to left field. Moyle opened the inning with a one-out single and later came around to score on Holder's second double of the afternoon, 4-0.

In the fourth inning, Butera got the Cougars going with a leadoff triple down the left field line. Holub then singled up the middle in the following at bat to plate Butera, 5-0.

After Holub stole second base standing, Pflueger drove her home with an RBI triple to right field. Pflueger later scored on Pacillo single through the left side, 7-0.

Misericordia improved to 24-10 overall with a 9-3 MAC Freedom mark. The Cougars will host Keystone College, Tuesday at 3:00 PM.
