The Misericordia University men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Scranton, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Thomas Vaccaro scored for the Cougars with an assist from
Levi Roberts.
Patrick Hoffman made six saves in goal.
Scranton took a 1-0 lead with just over one minute remaining in the first half and added an insurance goal less than a minute into the second half.
Max Gariano nearly got the Cougars on the board first in the 36
th minute after a nice feed from
Ethan Benedict, but his shot near the right post was denied.
Trent Wall cleared a Scranton header off the line in the 52
nd minute to keep the Cougars in the match.
Roberts played a ball on a re-start to Vaccaro near the left post where he found the back of the net in the 82
nd minute.
John Caracappa nearly pulled the Cougars even just two minutes later, but his effort sailed just over the bar.
Roberts had another promising free kick in the 89
th minute, but the Scranton keeper punched it away.
MU's last chance came in the 90
th minute, but
Connor McCarthy's shot was wide of the net.
The Cougars are 1-2-2 and will visit Rutgers-Camden, Saturday.
