The Misericordia University women's basketball remained in a first place tie in the MAC Freedom with a 66-62 win in overtime at FDU-Florham, Saturday.
Tessa Zamolyi and
Melina Santacroce both scored 13 points and
Gianna Delfino added 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
Down 55-53 with 1:36 left in regulation, Zamolyi hit a three-pointer to put the Cougars back in front and Santacroce sank a jumper to make it 58-55 with less than a minute remaining.
The Devils made three free throws to tie the score and both teams committed turnovers in the closing seconds to force OT.
Santacroce made two free throws to put MU ahead for good and
Alyssa Bondi's jumper made it 62-58 with 3:08 to go.
Erica Haefele made it 64-58 with two free throws, but the Devils scored four straight points to get within 64-62 with :35 left.
Zamolyi secured the win with a layup with :08 to play.
The Cougars raced out to a 27-11 lead with 3:39 to play in the second quarter, but the Devils ended the period on a 10-0 run to get within 27-21.
The Devils took a 41-36 lead late in the third quarter, but Zamolyi and Santacroce combined for five points to pull even, 41-41, after three periods.
The Cougars are 17-2 and will travel to Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
