The Misericordia University women's basketball team pulled out a hard-fought 65-57 win at Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
Erica Haefele scored a team-high 14 points as the Cougars improved to 18-2 and remained a first-place tie with DeSales at 7-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Alyssa Bondi added 12 points and eight rebounds and
Jordan Barth added 12 points.
Tessa Zamolyi scored 10 points and
Nora Tracey had nine points and eight rebounds.
Haefele gave the Cougars a 55-47 lead with a three-pointer with 5:47 to play and made even free throws over the final 3:41 to secure the win.
The Cougars fell behind, 11-4, less than four minutes into the game, but Bondi hit three consecutive three-pointers as MU closed the first quarter on a 16-1 run to take a 20-12 lead.
Zamolyi converted a three-point play to give Misericordia a 25-15 lead with 6:48 left in the second quarter, but the Aggies battled back to within 33-29 at halftime.
After Del Val took a 39-38 lead midway through the third quarter, the Cougars went ahead for good on a pair of free throws by Barth with 3:20 remaining.
Bondi hit another three-pointer to stretch the lead to 50-41 with less than a minute remaining in the third period.
