The Misericordia University softball team ended its trip to the Spring Games with a pair of shutout victories, Friday in Clermont, FL.
The Cougars defeated Elizabethtown, 7-0, and new England College, 8-0, to improve to 8-2.
Against E-Town,
Maddie Holub was 4-4 with three RBI and
Amanda Butera drove in two runs.
Alexa McHugh allowed just three hits and struck out seven over seven innings to earn her first collegiate win.
In the nightcap, Butera hit a three-run homer and
Kiersten Pflueger had a double, a triple and two RBI.
Brooke Moyle struck out nine and allowed just two hits in the five-inning win.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against E-Town. Holub led off with a triple to left field and came home on Butera's RBI-ground out.
MU added three runs in the second and tacked on three more runs in the fourth.
Brianna Holder drew a lead-off walk in the second and Jessica McDonough was hit by a pitch.Â
Taylor Baloga walked to load the bases and Holub cleared them with a triple to left center to make it 4-0.
McDonough doubled to open the fourth inning and McHugh followed with a triple to right center.
Baloga's sac fly made it 6-0.
Holub singled and scored on Butera's triple to right center to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
Against New England College, MU scored four in the first and four more in the fourth.
Butera and
Ciara DeLong drew one-out walks in the bottom of the first and Holder gave the Cougars the lead with a two-out single.
McDonough doubled to left to drive in a run and Pflueger followed with a two-run double to make it 4-0.
Pflueger tripled to lead off the fourth and
Megan Murphy walked. Moyle drove in a run with a ground out to make it 5-0.
After Holub reached on an error. Butera homered to center field to give the Cougars an 8-0 lead.
