Misericordia University will be represented at Super Bowl LV as Steph May '12 will be on the sidelines as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleading squad.
A four-year letter-winner with the Misericordia cheerleading team, May is in her fourth season with the Buccaneers and her first season as team captain.
In addition to being named Misericordia's team MVP as a senior, she received the Coach's Award in 2009 and was part of the first MU squad to attend the Universal Cheerleader Association national championships.
"Steph was a great team member and is an amazing young women," said Misericordia head coach
Tara Sinclair. "She is an alum that continues to support our program and comes to cheer us on when we compete at the UCA nationals. I am not surprised that she is doing big things."
A graduate of West Scranton High School, May earned her master's degree in occupational therapy and spent one season as a graduate assistant coach at Misericordia.Â
She credits Sinclair and the MU program for preparing her for this moment. "My experience at Misericordia taught me a great deal about work ethic and professionalism," said May. "Our involvement in community service projects has been extremely beneficial as the Buccaneers cheerleaders participate in a variety of community projects."
Ironically, May never got to cheer for the Misericordia football team as she graduated just months prior to the program's debut. "Football is my first love," said May. "But, Misericordia didn't start their program until after I graduated,"
May, who works as an occupational therapist at an outpatient facility near Tampa, is looking forward to Super Bowl week. "It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience," she said. "The craziness has already started and we are making a lot of appearances."
