The Misericordia University field hockey team wrapped up its MAC Freedom schedule with a 2-1 win at Wilkes, Wednesday.

Anna Effinger scored the game-winning goal late in the third quarter to lead the Cougars to their third straight win.

MU improved to 12-5 overall and finished tied for first in the MAC Freedom.Â

Misericordia earned four corners in a three-minute span and finally converted on the fourth to take the lead with 8:47 to play in the opening quarter.

The Cougars put five more shots on goal over the final 6:30 and ended the first quarter with an 11-1 advantage in shots.

Wilkes pulled even early in the third quarter, but the Cougars capitalized on another corner to go back in front with 3:24 to play in the period.

Allie Bianco had the assist on the game-winner.

MU will visit Ramapo for the regular season finale, Saturday.

The Cougars are the second seed and will host FDU-Florham in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday.
