The Misericordia University field hockey team scored twice early in the fourth quarter to beat Juniata, 2-0, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Mikayla Cavenas and
Lily Metress scored goals and
Anna Effinger and
Allie Bianco had assists as the Cougars won their fifth straight to improve to 6-4.
Olivia Gretz made two saves to earn her fifth shutout.
Effinger ripped a shot off the right post on a corner and Cavenas stuffed in the rebound to break a scoreless tie at 47:34.
Metress made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when she punched in a centering pass from Bianco on the left flank.
Morgan Sauter nearly gave the Cougars a lead late in the first half, but her shot was cleared off the goal line by an Eagles defender.
Juniata's only two shots on goal came back-to-back early in the fourth quarter, but Gretz stopped the both to keep the game scoreless.
The Cougars will host FDU-Florham, Friday.
