SUNY New Paltz used a big third quarter to rally to a 73-62 win over Misericordia University in women's college basketball action, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Alyssa Bondi led the Cougars with 28 points and
Morgan Haefele added 12 points and five assists.
The Cougars shot 5-8 from three-point range in the first quarter to take a 22-16 lead after 10 minutes.
Haefele and Bondi both hit early three-pointers to give MU an 8-4 lead.
Gianna Delfino, Haefele and Bondi all connected from deep as the Cougars built a 22-13 lead with 2:00 to play in the opening period.
MU led throughout most of the second quarter until the Hawks scored six straight points to take a 33-30 lead into halftime.
New Paltz built and 18-point after three quarters and the Cougars rally came up short.
Delfino's layup got the Cougars within 66-48 with 2:12 to go, but they never got any closer.
MU will host Gwynedd Mercy, Monday.
