MU Field Hockey Advances With Double-OT Win

Madison Posivak scored late in the second overtime to lead the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over FDU-Florham in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Morgan Walsh centered a ball from outside the circle and Mikayla Cavenas tipped it toward the left post where Posivak juggled it on her stick and carried it into the cage for the game-winner with 3:28 to play.

Misericordia carried the play throughout much of the contest and held the Devils without a shot in the first three quarters.

The Cougars threatened early in the first period when Meghan Radnoff served a ball across the goal mouth from the left end line, but it was out of reach of the outstretched stick of Cavenas.

MU had a dangerous opportunity late in the third quarter when Walsh's shot off a corner was saved and Lily Metress just missed getting her stick on the rebound before it was cleared.

Anna Effinger's shot in the 69th minute was just wide of the left post and the teams headed to the second extra session.

The Devils put together their best play of the night and the Cougars dodged a bullet when Haleigh Flukey's blast 1:17 into the period hit the right post.

Olivia Gretz made her only save of the night at 74:54 and the Cougars scored the game-winner two minutes later.

Misericordia improved to 13-8 and will travel to Stevens for the MAC Freedom championship game, Saturday.
