The Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated Neumann, 64-55, in the consolation game of the Montclair State Holiday Tournament, Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars never trailed after opening the game on a 14-0 run.

Alyssa Bondi led MU with 15 points and Nora Tracey had 10 points and nine rebounds while Melina Santacroce had seven points and 12 rebounds.

Santacroce, Bondi and Tracey combined for the first 11 points of the game before Skylar Dowling hit a three-pointer for a 14-0 lead just over three minutes into the contest.

Neumann rallied to cut the deficit in half after one quarter, 18-11, but MU stretched its lead back to 28-16 at halftime.

The Knights used a 10-0 run to get within 33-30 late in the third quarter, but the Cougars responded with a 14-5 run to end the period.

Bondi and Tracey combined for 10 points in that span and Santacroce converted a three-point play at the buzzer for a 47-35 lead.

The Knights never got closer than eight points in the fourth quarter.

MU will return to MAC Freedom play when they host Arcadia, Wednesday.
