Melina Santacroce had a double-double to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 46-36 win over Wilkes, Thursday night on Doc Mould Court.
Santacroce had 11 points and 11 rebounds while
Meaghan McCaffrey had a team-high 13 points. Nora Tracy added six points and 10 rebounds.
Brenna Babcock led Wilkes with six points.
After Erin Shober opened the scoring for Wilkes with a free throw in the opening seconds,
Alyssa Bondi put MU in front with a three-pointer from the top of the key.
Erica Haefele followed with a layup high off the glass and
Elizabeth Fasti buried a three-pointer from the left corner for an 8-1 lead.
Brenna Babcock scored back-to-back buckets for Wilkes and Kendra Smith made two free throws to get the Colonels within 8-7 after one period.
McCaffrey made a jumper from the right baseline to beat the shot clock to open the second quarter and give the Cougars a 10-7 lead.
Shober's layup put Wilkes ahead 16-14 late in the half before Santacroce answered with a pair of free throws.
McCaffrey converted a three-point play, but Maddie Kelley answered with a three-pointer for Wilkes to send the teams into halftime tied, 19-19.
Kendra Kinczel put Wilkes in front, 22-19, with a three-pointer early in the third quarter.
Down 24-23, McCaffrey took a wrap-around pass from Bondi and put the Cougars ahead for good, 25-24, midway through the third quarter.
Bondi grabbed a long offensive rebound and drained a three-pointer from the right wing to make it 30-24 with 3:47 left in the third period.
Morgan Haefele's three-pointer from the left corner put the Cougars up, 36-28, at the end of the third quarter.
The teams will meet again Friday at 7:00 at Wilkes.
