Cougars Drop Two to DeSales

The Misericordia University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to DeSales, 11-3, 20-13, Sunday at Tambur Field.

Kyle Lennon had a hit and two RBI in the opener.

Dante Salerno had three hits and two RBI in the nightcap while Derrick Vosburg had two hits and three RBI.

Brady Madden had two hits and Sean Boylan and Dalton Emerich both drove in two runs.

DeSales scored in five straight innings to take an 11-0 lead in the opener before the Cougars scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Kyle Kane led off with a single and went to third on Garrett McIlhenney's pinch-hit double.  Lennon followed with a two-run double to right field and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

In the nightcap, Salerno led off the bottom of the first with a double and moved up on a ground out before scoring on a third strike/passed ball.

DeSales scored five runs in the top of the second, but the Cougars answered with seven in the bottom half.

Emerich drew a lead-off walk and moved up Austin Miles' single to right.  Vosburg doubled down the right field line to drive in two runs and came and all the around on a throwing error.

Joe Liscio reached via hit pitch and Salerno singled before McIlhenney reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases.  Boylan lined a single to left field to give the Cougars a 6-5 lead.

Madden singled and both runners moved up on a wild pitch before Santino Manganella drove home a run with a sac fly to right.  Emerich followed with a double to left center field to make it 8-5.

After DeSales rallied to take a 10-8 lead, the Cougars five more runs in the fourth to take a 13-8 lead.

Madden singled and stole second and eventually scored on Emerich's RBI-ground out.  Miles walked, stole second and scored on Vosburg's single.

Liscio walked and Salerno drove in two runs with a triple down the right field line.  Salerno scored on a wild pitch to close out MU's scoring.

The Cougars loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but DeSales escaped the jam.

DeSales added three runs in the top of the seventh before the game was called due to darkness.
