The Misericordia University softball team improved to 4-0 with a sweep at FDU-Florham, Saturday.
The Cougars took the opener, 4-2, and won the nightcap, 3-1.
Bri Holder had three hits and two RBI in the opener while
Megan Fenstermaker added two hits and an RBI.
Nicole Elliott added a double to make a winner of
Alexa McHugh, who struck out seven and scattered seven hits over seven innings.
After FDU-Florham scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Cougars got a run back in their next at bat when Holder led off with a solo homer.
MU went ahead with a pair of runs in the third. Elliott and Fenstermaker had back-to-back doubles to start the inning and Holder's single put the Cougars in front, 3-2.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the fourth when Holub reached third base on an outfield error to start the inning and came home on
Amanda Butera's fielder's choice.
In game two, the Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and added an insurance run in the top of third.
Elliott added three hits and an RBI and
Maddie Holub and
Zariah Alvin had two hits each.
Holder had a hit and drove in a run.
Holub led off the game with a triple and scored on Elliott's one-out single.Â
Emma Griffin walked and
Madison Koons singled before Elliott scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Elliott led off the third inning with a single to right field and eventually scored on Holder's two-out single.
Jessica Oltman worked six-plus shutout innings before allowing FDU-Florham's lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
