The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader at DeSales, 9-2, 6-4, Sunday.
In the opener,
Kaitlin Redling was 3-3 with three RBI and
Amanda Butera,
Maddie Holub and
Zariah Alvin all had two hits.
Nicole Elliott and
Brianna Holder both drove in two runs.
Alexa McHugh struck out six and scattered five hits to earn the win.
Redling had two hits and Holub drove in three runs in the nightcap.
Antonia Pacillo had a two-run single.
Jessica Oltman worked six innings to pick up the win
Emily Wenner pitched a scoreless seventh to get the save.
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener. Holub reached with an opposite-field single with one out and scored on Redling's two-out double to left field. Butera singled and Holder made it 3-0 with a two-run double to center field.
MU plated three more runs in their next at bat.
Emma Griffin drew a one-out walk and moved up on Holub's two-out walk. Elliott drove in two runs with a double to right center and Redling made it 6-0 with an RBI-single to left field.
The Cougars added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
In the nightcap, MU scored in each of the first three innings to grab a 6-0 lead and held off a late DeSales rally.
Zariah Alvin opened the game with a walk and came around to score on Redling's two-out double.
Holder doubled to start the second inning and Pacillo and Alvin both walked to load the bases before Holub cleared them with a three-run, two-out triple to left center.
Pacillo grounded a two-run single through the middle to make it 6-0 in the third.
