The Misericordia University softball team improved to 9-1 with a doubleheader sweep at Wilkes, 4-2, 6-2, Tuesday evening.

Maddie Holub had two hits and scored two runs in the opener while Zariah Alvin had MU's lone RBI.

Alexa McHugh struck out three and allowed just four hits and one earned run to improve to 5-0 on the mound.

Alvin, Amanda Butera and Antonia Pacillo all had two hits and an RBI in the nightcap while Nicole Elliott hit a two-run homer.

Jessica Oltman struck out six over five innings to get the win and Emily Wenner worked the final two innings.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in third inning of the opener.  Holub drew a lead-off walk and stole second and Elliott was hit by a pitch.  One out later, Butera reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners.  Butera stole second and Holub came home on a throwing error.

After Wilkes tied it the bottom of the third, the Cougars went back in front in the top of the fourth.  Pacillo singled through the left side to open the inning and moved up on a wild pitch.  Pacillo moved to third on a ground out and came in on Alvin's single through the left side.

Wilkes tied the score again in their half of the fourth and the score stood until the Cougars scored a pair of runs in the seventh.  Holub reached on a one-out single to left and moved up when Elliott reached via HBP for the second time.  With two outs, both runners moved on a double steal before putting the Cougars ahead when Butera reached on an outfield error.

MU went ahead in their first at bat of the nightcap.  Holub drew a one-out and moved to second on an error.  Butera singled up the middle with two down to plate the first run of the game.

After Wilkes answered in the bottom of the first, the Cougars took the lead for good in the top of the second.  Pacillo led off with a single and moved to third on a ground out and wild pitch.  Alvin singled up the middle with two outs to make it 2-1.

MU added two runs in the third and two more in the fourth.

In the third inning, Butera reached on a one-out infield single and went to third when Bri Holder reached on a two-base error.  Pacillo drove in a run with a single and Megan Murphy made it 4-2 with an RBI-ground out.

Alvin led off the fourth with a walk and Elliott homered down the right field line to give the Cougars a 6-1 lead.

MU will host Wilkes, Thursday at 3:00.
