The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Lycoming, Saturday. The Cougars took the opener, 4-3, but dropped the nightcap, 9-6.
Kaitlin Redling had two hits and two RBI in the opener and
Amanda Butera added two hits and an RBI.
Alexa McHugh struck out nine while allowing just three hits to improve to 8-0.
Zariah Alvin had three hits and two RBI and
Nicole Elliott had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap.
Redling, Butera and
Brianna Holder all added two hits.
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first of the opener. Alvin walked and went to third on Holub's double to left center. Redling singled through the right side to drive in a run and Butera singled up the middle to make it 2-0. Holder added an RBI on a ground out.
Lycoming tied it with three runs in the third and the Cougars scored the winning run in the fifth.
Elliott singled and moved up on a throwing error before eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Redling.
In the nightcap, Lycoming jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
MU got a run back in the second and third innings and went ahead with a four-run fourth. Alvin had a two-run double and Elliott hit a two-run homer to give the Cougars a 6-4 lead.
Lycoming answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
