The Misericordia University baseball team split a doubleheader at Arcadia, Monday, to take three out of four games from the Knights.

The Cougars got all the runs they needed in the second inning as the took the opener, 3-1.

The Knights rallied to win the nightcap, 3-1.

Brady Madden drove in two runs and Mike Murphy added an RBI while Sean Boylan and Owen VanNewkirk both had two hits.

David McCurry struck out five and allowed just four hits over six innings to get the win while Tyler Leonard pitched a perfect seventh to earn his third save.

VanNewkirk added three hits in the finale.

In the opener, Randy Mateo led off the second with a double to left center and VanNewkirk reached via hit by pitch before Shane Hughes walked to load the bases. Madden gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead with a double to right field and Murphy squeezed in a run to make it 3-0.

Arcadia scored its lone run in the bottom of the third.

In the finale, Arcadia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. MU scored in the sixth and eighth innings to pull even.

Austin Miles singled on an 0-2 pitch to lead off the sixth and moved up on a fielder's choice. Miles advanced to third on a balk and scored on Mateo's single to left field.

Sean Boylan singled to lead off the eighth and took second on an error. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run when Madden reached on an error.

Arcadia scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Cougars will host Stevens for a doubleheader, Saturday at noon.
