The Misericordia University softball team swept DeSales, 9-0, 5-4, Wednesday at Anderson Field.
Kaitlin Redling had two hits and two RBI and
Brianna Holder added two hits in the opener.Â
Amanda Butera drove in three runs, including a two-run homer.
Alexa McHugh worked four innings to earn the win and improve to 7-0.
Holder had three hits in the nightcap and
Nicole Elliott had two hits and three RBI.
Maddie Holub and Butera had two hits each.
Zariah Alvin was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the first and Holub doubled off the left field wall to make it 1-0. Elliott grounded a double over the third base bag to make it 2-0. Elliott scored on a pair of ground outs and the Cougars put together a two- rally to make it 4-0.
Holder singled to left field and eventually scored on McHugh's single through the left side
Holub reached via hit by pitch with one out in the second and came around to score on Redling's triple to right center.
Holder doubled to deep center to open the third and scored on McHugh's sac fly to short right field.
Holub was plunked again to lead off the fourth and stole second. Redling singled through the right side to make it 7-0 and Butera followed with a two-run homer to right.
McHugh struck out three and allowed just three hits to earn the win.
DeSales took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the nightcap.
MU went ahead with a pair of runs in the third. Murphy reached on an error to open the third inning and Holub single to right field with both runners moving up on an outfield miscue. Elliott doubled in two runs to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
DeSales tied it in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth.
The Cougars scored three times in the fifth go back in front for good.
Zariah Alvin led off the fifth with an infield single and moved to second on a ground out. Elliott singled in a run and moved to second on a misplay in the outfield.
Redling tripled in a run to left center, but was later thrown out at home as she tried to score on Butera's bunt single
Butera stole second and came home with the winning run on Holder's single to center field.
Emma Griffin worked four innings in relief to earn the win.
DeSales put its first two runners on in the sixth, but Griffin struck out the side to escape the jam.
The Bulldogs put the tying run on base with a leadoff walk in the seventh, but three straight pop ups ended the game.
