Anna Effinger had two goals and assist to lead the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 3-0 win in their MAC Freedom opener, Saturday at Delaware Valley in their MAC Freedom opener.
Lily Metress gave the Cougars the lead midway through the first quarter on assists from Effinger and
Mikayla Cavenas.
Effinger made it 2-0 in the second quarter and added a penalty stroke goal late in the third period.
The Cougars held a commanding edge in shots, 26-1, and took 15 penalty corners while not allowing any.
Metress tapped in the opening goal after some outstanding passing from Effinger and Cavenas at 9:00.
Effinger scored on a backhanded shot with a feed from
Morgan Walsh at 19:47 and added the stroke with just over a minute remaining in the third period.
Olivia Gretz stopped the only shot she faced in the first quarter.
Misericordia will travel to Susquehanna, Tuesday.
