The Misericordia University men's volleyball team opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of SUNY-Poly, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
The Cougars took the opener, 3-0, and won the nightcap, 3-1.
Billy Murphy,
Austin Cervasio and
Kyle Ganoe had eight kills in the opener. Murphy added three aces and two blocks and
Connor Cusick had three blocks.
Dylan Sellitti had 27 assists for MU.
Anthony DePalma had a team-high 19 kills in the nightcap and Murphy and Ganoe had 14 and 12, respectively.
Ganoe had three aces while Sellitti and Murphy had two each.
Cusick and Murphy had four blocks each and Sellitti had 45 assists.
Murphy closed the opening set with back-to-back aces to give MU a 25-21 win.
Down 22-20 in the second set, the Cougars closed the set on a 5-1 run, including a kill by Cusick and a block by Cusick and Murphy for the winning point.
MU jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the third set and never looked back in a 25-18 win.
In the nightcap, SUNY-Poly took a 13-6 lead, but MU rallied to win, 25-22.
The Wildcats wont he second set, 28-26, but the Cougars took the next two, 25-17, 25-21 to complete the doubleheader sweep.
