The Misericordia University men's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season with a split on the opening day of the Cougars Kickoff Challenge.
MU swept Wilkes, 3-0, in the opener but dropped a 3-2 decision to Lancaster Bible in the nightcap.
Anthony DePalma had a team-high seven kills in the opener and
Austin Cervasio had six kills and three aces.
Dylan Sellitti had 17 assists and
Gannon DeFrain added 16.
Lucas Mages led Wilkes with six kills and two aces and Paul Binner had four kills and three blocks.
Kyle Ganoe led MU with 12 kills in the nightcap while
Billy Murphy and DePalma had 11 each.
Sellitti had 46 assists.
Ten different players had kills for the Cougars as they took the opener, 25-18, 25-14, 28-26.
After dropping the first set to Lancaster Bible, 25-20, MU rallied to win two straight by identical 25-20 scores.
DePalma tied the score 12-12 in the second set and the Cougars went up 16-12 on four straight LBC attack errors.
The Cougars jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never trailed in the third set. Lancaster Bible got within 21-19, but MU closed a 4-1 run.
The Chargers broke as 12-12 tie and went on to win the fourth set, 25-21.
Misericordia took a 3-1 lead in the finale, but LBC tied and used a 6-0 run to take an 11-5 lead.
