The Misericordia University women's basketball team's rally came up just short in a 63-55 loss to King's, Wednesday night on Doc Mould Court.
Alyssa Bondi had 13 points for Misericordia and
Gianna Delfino had 12 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Melina Santacroce added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Skylar Dowling converted a four-point play to cap a 19-7 run in the fourth quarter as the Cougars pulled within 56-52 with just under a minute to play.
The Monarchs made five free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Down 49-33 early in the fourth quarter, MU began to chip away as Santacroce and Delfino combined for four layups to get with 52-41 with 4:29 to go.
Elizabeth Fasti hit a jumper in the lane and Bondi drilled a three-pointer from the right win to cut the margin to 54-46 with 3:05 left.
Neither team scored over the next two minutes before Delfino finished a fast break off a feed from Fasti with 1:24 to play.
After King's made two free throws, Dowling hit a deep three-pointer from the left win off an inbounds play and added the foul shot.
King's jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, but
Morgan Haefele came up with a steal and found Santacroce for a layup with 5:59 to go in the first quarter.
Bondi used a cross-over dribble and drained a 15-foot jumper from the left wing and Delfino sank a jumper from the right elbow to tie the score, 8-8, midway through the first quarter.
King's pulled away throughout the rest of the first half to set the stage for MU's furious rally.
Misericordia will host DeSales, Saturday.
