The Misericordia University men's basketball team returned to action with a 77-61 loss to Arcadia, Wednesday night on Doc Mould Court.

 

Elijah Rosenthal led the Cougars with 13 points in his collegiate debut and Joseph Baldachino and Derek Smith added 10 points each.

 

Arcadia closed the first half on a 17-6 run to take a 38-26 lead into halftime and MU never recovered.

 

After Arcadia scored the first four points of the game, Elijah Rosenthal made a deep three-pointer for his first collegiate points.

 

Matt Marchetti scored back-to-back layups, including a nice spin move in the lane, to pull MU even, 7-7, with 15:01 to go in the first half.

 

Arcadia hit a three-pointer and Chris Robinson answered with a step-back three from the left win to tie the score, 10-10.

 

Hornung backed down his defender for a lay-up on the left block to give the Cougars their first lead, 12-10, with 13:19 remaining.

 

Arcadia hit another three-pointer, but Hornung responded with a short jumper for a 14-13 lead.

 

Baldachino drilled a three-pointer from the right corner to put MU up 17-13, but Arcadia scored seven straight points to take a 21-17 lead with 7:30 left in the first half.

 

Baldachino hit another three from the left corner to get within 21-20 with 7:14 to play, but the Cougars scored just six points over the final 7:00 of the first half.

 

Misericordia will visit Stevens, Saturday.
